I'm a researcher working to protect our safety, privacy, and digital freedoms on the Internet.

I'll be starting as an Assistant Professor at The University of Toronto in January 2027, at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, cross-appointed to the Department of Computer Science, and affiliated with The Citizen Lab.

I'm currently a postdoc with Dawn Song at UC Berkeley. I received my Ph.D. from Princeton CS at the Center for IT Policy advised by Jonathan Mayer and Prateek Mittal. I was also previously a Staff Technologist at the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

I'm honored to have received the FOCI Rising Star Award, the OTF Information Controls Fellowship, the ACM CSCW Impact Recognition Award, and the IRTF Applied Networking Research Prize.

art

I make oil paintings, murals, and lots of other things from wood and metal. In 2023, I led the design and fabrication of a large-scale wooden sculpture. Currently, I'm working on a kinetic sculpture based on Islamic parquet deformations.

I've been training in Sino-Arabic calligraphy since 2022 under the tutelage of Haji Noor Deen 米广江.

I'm a part of the 2025 cohort for ARTogether's Artist Mentorship Hub and Residency.

puzzles

I love doing puzzles. I also love writing puzzles! I've designed several puzzlehunts and escape rooms.

I helped Teammate write the 2023 MIT Mystery Hunt, where I also designed the character and art for the Ascent round, vaguely based on "biblically accurate angel" memes and the Tower of Babel. The puzzles I am most proud of constructing are Book of Fixed Stars, a puzzle which utilizes Arabic, and Fountain.

My current puzzle obsession is the new wave of Chinese-language Mystery-hunt-style puzzlehunts written and run by Chinese universities' puzzle clubs!
